Did you know that Americans move on average over five times in their life? Moving is one of the most stressful events of our lives, whether you are moving for the first time out of your parent’s house, or it is the fifth time because of a transfer at work. Regardless, moving will always be a difficult process.

During each of those moves, you will need a handy checklist to keep the workflow going!

Are you planning to move in the near future? Check out this moving supplies checklist.

Moving Supplies Checklist: Packing Up

Once you have a new place in mind, you can get started. The first step is acquiring all of the best moving supplies before you can even think about packing up. Below you will find the complete list!

Boxes

This should be the first item on your list. You can’t start packing without it. First, however, you will need to determine the number of boxes you’ll need for your home. Each home is different, so it is important to buy the right ones.

  • Studio apartment – 20 Boxes
  • 1-Bedroom apartment – 32 Boxes
  • 2-Bedroom apartment – 50 Boxes
  • 3-Bedroom apartment – 90 Boxes
  • 4-Bedroom apartment – 125 Boxes

Packing Paper

Packing paper is next. While you won’t need paper for each item, it is important to note that fragile items should have a protective layer around them. While packing paper is not very expensive, you can save some money by using newspapers or old magazines.

Another budget-friendly tip is to use clothes and linens to pack your fragile items.

Packing Tape

Packing tape is a must. You can’t go without it.

Not only that, but you’ll need good quality tape as well. Skimping on tape might lead to boxes breaking and opening up during the move, especially with heavier items.

Scissors and Other Office Supplies

While it may be tempting to pack up the office right away, leave some items out—markers, a few pens, and most importantly, scissors.

You’ll need to have all these items to stay organized. Number each box and mark down what is in each box on paper. That way, if you accidentally packed a badly needed item, you know exactly where to look!

Moving Supplies Guide: Moving Day

When moving day comes, some additional supplies are needed to keep all your items safe. There are some great items designed specifically for moving. Such as:

  • Mattress bags
  • Shrinkwrap
  • Moving blankets
  • Straps
  • Lock

Wrapping large items like TVs, artwork, or other fragile items will protect them from scratches, dents, and any other damages.

While packing the truck, strap in any items that might shift during the trip, and make sure to lock up the truck when you stop to keep your items safe from theft.
